Room 324 [Monday Evening]

Bobby should have guessed something was up when Hank insisted on calling him via Skype instead of his actual phone.

Bobby should have known something was up when Hank wasn't actually in range of the camera at the start of the call, and in lieu of a greeting started things off with "Now, Robert, I must forewarn you that you may find my countenance somewhat shocking. But I hope you won't be unduly alarmed..."

And then he'd stepped in front of the camera and he'd been blue. And not the "someone's put dye in your showerhead" type of blue. More of a "suddenly sprouted fur" blue.

Two hours and one long-winded sciencey explanation that Bobby didn't really understand later, he disconnected the call and spent the next few minutes just sort of staring at his laptop screen. Sure, their lives as mutants and X-Men had always been sort of weird, but he really didn't know what to think about this latest development.

Sookie demurely set the cake on the desk before perching on his bed. "So, yeah, there's cake. It's red velvet, which is actually chocolate, so, y'know, you'll like it. Are you doing okay, cake aside? I bet you loved this weekend." She figured she'd give him an opening to talk about whatever was troubling him, but not force him to.

"This weekend was awesome," Bobby grinned at her. "I mean, the no lights part sucked, but the rest was pretty sweet. You held up okay? I know the cold isn't your favorite thing ever."

"I think my hair turned to icicles at one point," she said woefully.

"So did mine!" Bobby shared. "...Of course, that was on purpose on my part."

"And yours sprang back just fine, I see," Sookie noted. "I have a feeling you'd loathe Louisiana."

"I'm not a hot weather fan, yeah," Bobby admitted. "But humid's better than dry heat. At least there's still moisture in the air, you know?"

"Gives you more to work with, don't it?" she asked with a smile.

"Exactly!" he nodded. "Plus, anyplace is better than Krakoa, at least." Oh look, a very subtle segue into 'what I did on my winter vacation'.

"I'm not even sure where that is," she replied, impressed.

"Out in the middle of the ocean, somewhere," that was helpful, Bobby. "Nowhere worth going. 'Course, that didn't stop Professor Xavier from sending us there anyway."

Sookie gave him a curious look, and ventured, "Um. I thought he...you know, wasn't with us anymore?"

"Yeeeah so did I," Bobby said. "Turns out he faked his own death."

Sookie was sort of at a loss as to what to say to that. She finally settled for, "That's great news!"

Because the alternative involved incredulous cursing, and she was a lady.

There had been a lot of cursing on Bobby's part when he'd found out. Because despite his efforts to temper his language around Sookie, he was... definitely not a lady.

"Yeah," he said, without too much enthusiasm. "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's not dead, and I even understand why he had to lie to us," except Jean, of course, who'd known all along. "It's just- I can't help feeling a little betrayed by the whole thing."

"Of course you do!" she exclaimed. "He lied to you about the most important thing anyone can lie about!"

"And he came back, and everything was supposed to be fine, and-" it wasn't fine.

"Do you want a hug?" she offered softly.

"A hug would be great," Bobby admitted. "...As long as you mean from you and you're not dragging someone else in here to randomly hug me. Cause that would be weird." Awkward attempt at levity: go!

"I was going to go get Emma -- you know how cuddly she is," Sookie teased, leaning over to hug him. "I'm so sorry he did that, honey. I mean, I'm sure he had his reasons, but it's still awful."

"Saving the world and all that," Bobby mumbled into her shoulder. "And I do like the world being here, and stuff, but- I don't think I'm going back to New York for a while."

"Well, good. I would miss you," she said sincerely, trying for more levity.

"The Professor's got new students to worry about, so really, it's all for the best," Bobby said. "How's the, um- lightning stuff going?" he had to ask.

She shifted a little. "Um, it's...hard. I mean, the lightning stuff is easy, but all the other stuff. Do you really want to hear this?"

"I wouldn't have asked otherwise," Bobby said. Given his own experiences, he had an idea of what the 'other stuff' might be.

"I'm just not sure who -- or what -- I am anymore," she admitted, shrugging slightly. "I was always, y'know, odd. But now I'm dangerous, and...different. More different."
