Room 324 [Monday Evening]

Bobby should have guessed something was up when Hank insisted on calling him via Skype instead of his actual phone.

Bobby should have known something was up when Hank wasn't actually in range of the camera at the start of the call, and in lieu of a greeting started things off with "Now, Robert, I must forewarn you that you may find my countenance somewhat shocking. But I hope you won't be unduly alarmed..."

And then he'd stepped in front of the camera and he'd been blue. And not the "someone's put dye in your showerhead" type of blue. More of a "suddenly sprouted fur" blue.

Two hours and one long-winded sciencey explanation that Bobby didn't really understand later, he disconnected the call and spent the next few minutes just sort of staring at his laptop screen. Sure, their lives as mutants and X-Men had always been sort of weird, but he really didn't know what to think about this latest development.

Sookie was in a brilliantly happy mood today, as compared to her weekend. So pleased, in fact, that she'd finally baked a very belated, promised birthday cake.

She bounded down to Bobby's room when the small red velvet cake was cool enough to carry, and knocked lightly on the open door. "Busy?"

"Huh?" Bobby tore his eyes from the absolutely riveting sight of his desktop wallpaper. "Not- not really, no," he admitted.

Sookie arched an eyebrow, because yeah, that was a little odd. "Better question -- you okay?"

"Oh, I'm fine," Bobby waved a hand dismissively. "It's just- is that cake?" Yes, he was distracted enough that it actually took him two pings this long to notice there was cake.

"I think I promised you cake for making it all the way to sixteen, didn't I? It's just, you know, six weeks late," Sookie said, still watching him.

"Eleven if you count the fact that time went weird for me over break," he felt compelled to point out. "Also, um," he finally remembered that thing called 'manners', "you can totally come in!" he hopped up to shove some textbooks out of the way on his desk to make room for the cake. "Um, there's the chair..." he waved at the desk chair, "or the bed if you want to sit down."

Sookie demurely set the cake on the desk before perching on his bed. "So, yeah, there's cake. It's red velvet, which is actually chocolate, so, y'know, you'll like it. Are you doing okay, cake aside? I bet you loved this weekend." She figured she'd give him an opening to talk about whatever was troubling him, but not force him to.

"This weekend was awesome," Bobby grinned at her. "I mean, the no lights part sucked, but the rest was pretty sweet. You held up okay? I know the cold isn't your favorite thing ever."

"I think my hair turned to icicles at one point," she said woefully.

"So did mine!" Bobby shared. "...Of course, that was on purpose on my part."

"And yours sprang back just fine, I see," Sookie noted. "I have a feeling you'd loathe Louisiana."

"I'm not a hot weather fan, yeah," Bobby admitted. "But humid's better than dry heat. At least there's still moisture in the air, you know?"

"Gives you more to work with, don't it?" she asked with a smile.

Roy was kind of bored, which meant it was time to find someone to entertain him so he didn't go out and do something stupid. Hooray!

Also, he was pretty sure he'd kind of freaked out at Bobby the other day and wanted to find out if that was something he needed to apologize for. So here he was. "Hey, Bobby," he said from the doorway. "What's up?"

"My best friend is now blue and covered in fur because he thought it'd be a good idea to be his own lab rat?"

...No, probably not the best way to answer that question.

"Well, I was just about to stop thinking about doing homework and actually do some, so you arrived just in the nick of time, man."

"That's why...I'm here," he finished after a beat, because he'd almost made a Speedy joke there. Yikes. "I excel at saving people from homework."

"It is a menace that must be dealt with," Bobby deadpanned. "There's so few people willing to take a stand against the evils of homework these days."

"I have to face my online classes sooner or later," Roy admitted. "Obviously, that time is not now. For it is evil."

"Key word: later," Bobby said with a nod. "We just spent a weekend without electricity. Therefore, we deserve... yeah, I don't actually know where I was going with that," he had to admit.

Luckily for Bobby, he had Roy: "We deserve two extra days to do our homework! Because we couldn't, because we had no computers and it was freakin' cold."

Well, Bobby was of the opinion that the cold had been freaking awesome but he was well aware he was in the minority on that. "Oh, you're good," he said, appreciative of the logic nonetheless. "You can stay."

Roy had no idea his new friend was his own ice dispenser, though, so he really couldn't be blamed for expressing his total dislike of the cold. "Good, because otherwise I'd have to find something else to do and that might not end well."

"So you're saving me from homework, and I'm saving you from... wreaking general havoc, apparently," Bobby mused. "Yeah, that's cool. Especially since if there's havoc-wreaking to be... wrought, I'd be deeply disappointed if I weren't involved."

'Wreaking general havoc' sounded so much better than the sort of trouble Roy was more likely to get up to on his own. "Next time there's havoc to be wrought, I'll be sure to ask you along," Roy promised.

Just so long as it wasn't Havok-with-a-k, who was much more likely to just get a punch in the face.

"Good man," he said approvingly. "I mean, one could say the island does a good enough job of that on its own, but I think our little experiment with the phones proved that really, it's just providing us with more to work with."
